Sylvester Consulting Group was formed in 1996 to assist hotel and restaurant owners, operators and investors in assessing development opportunities and implementing cost-effective solutions. The firm represents clients predominately in the Northeast and Middle Atlantic region in such areas as market studies, operational studies, management counsel, interim management, recruitment and property acquisition and disposition.

Our firm is comprised of experienced professionals and seasoned hotel and restaurant managers, fully capable of implementing our findings in an oversight or day-to-day interim management capacity.

Derek Sylvester Derek W. Sylvester
President

Prior to forming Sylvester Consulting Group, Derek Sylvester was a principal of Restaurant Advisory Services, the foremost restaurant and hotel consulting firm in the nation and a senior consultant with Pannell, Kerr, Forster (PKF) one of the largest hospitality consulting firms in the world. Mr. Sylvester management experience includes serving as general manager of the Castle Hill in Newport, RI and as restaurant manager with Marriott Hotels and Resorts. He has conducted over 150 market demand studies for proposed and conversion hotels in the New England and Mid-Atlantic States. Mr. Sylvester has been responsible for the development and turnaround of numerous restaurant and hotel food and beverage operations. He is an active member of the Rhode Island Hospitality & Tourism Association, Cayuga Hospitality Advisors, Cornell Hotel Society, Working Capital and Big Brothers. He is a 1986 graduate of Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration.

John Todia John Todia

John Todia has thirty-five years of operations and senior hospitality management experience with Sky Chefs, Winegardner & Hammons and Waterford Hotel Group. Most recently, John was President, COO and Director of Development for Waterford.Mr. Todia’s operations and development experience include multi-unit management of forty-eight hotels with annual revenues in excess of $250,000,000 and development projects that exceed $200,000,000 in market value.He has in-depth working knowledge of every major hotel franchise group, and has personally supervised the opening of six newly constructed hotels. John has negotiated and obtained management contracts for over sixty-five hotels whose ownership included not only major financial institutions, but also single facility principals.He is a graduate of Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration and also attended graduate school at the University of Cincinnati and Northeastern University.John is a member of Cayuga Hospitality Advisors and the Cornell Hotel Society.He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the IAHI, and several chambers of commerce.
